Fort Saskatchewan's historic Fort Hotel went up in flames Monday afternoon. Fire crews were called to the building around 2 p.m. after thick billows of smoke could be seen pouring out of the hotel. The blaze, believed to have started in the hotel's restaurant, quickly spread to the second and third floor. Fort Saskatchewan is approximately 30 km east of Edmonton.

A deadly house fire in the Capliano area has claimed the life of an elderly woman, and sent one man to hospital. Around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, 17 fire units were called to a home at 106 Avenue and 57 Street to discover the structure fully engulfed in flames. The stained glass was designed and created by Brenda Malkinson. Both her grandparents, her father, and all her uncles were war veterans and proud of their service.

Police have reopened Highway 663 after a train derailed near the community of Caslan on Saturday afternoon. CN officials say a freight train with 111 cars and five locomotives was crossing the highway when eight cars carrying 'petroleum coke,' a byproduct of oildsands production, went off the track.
